Mouchao 2002 |
||||
![]() Mouchão is a blend of 70% Alicante Bouschet and 30% Trincadeira. Bunch thinning and selection take place in the vineyard before picking by hand.After crushing, the grapes and stalks are trodden by foot and fermented in traditional stone lagares or shallow tanks. Following fermentation the wine is aged in a combination of wooden vats and French oak barrels, a proportion of which are new, for at least 2 years. After bottling it will undergo further 2 years bottle-maturation before release. The style and quality of Mouchão derives mainly from the Alicante Bouschet which performs exceptionally well in the terroir of the estate. The wine has a deep color, a profound and fragrant aroma and a spicy character and concentration. A big wine of great length and complexity it will develop very well with further aging in bottle. 95 POINTS: Wine Spectator
